Nobel Laureat Internet-Conference/ Lecture

Tonight, attended a Nobel Laureate internet-conference / lecture in NIE. Nobel Laureate Russell Hulse discovered Binary Pulsar. (Pulsar = pulsating star). First time attended an internet conference, really interesting. But tiring of course, a morning lecture in Dallas, Texas, US ... is night time is Singapore.

A few pics ...
Most of us know nuts about Pulsar, so there was a pre-lecture lecture about stars - the White Dwarfs, Red Giants, Neutron Stars and Black Holes ... is like a revision of my cosmology module. an elegant diagram summarizing all these is the Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram.

Can you spot our Sun in the diagram (it is one of those at the Main Sequence - the diagonal top left to bottom right line) ?

Bad News and Good News -
Bad News: One day our Sun is going to exhaust its fuel and collapse into one of those stars like White Dwarf, Red Giants or some Neutron Stars depending on its mass.

Good News: That's another about 5 billion years . By the way ,the Age of the Sun is 4.6 billion years )
