Comfort Food

Something so simple and easy to prepare, yet so comforting!

Personally, I make this with honey instead of sugar, and I tried this with different types of bread. I find that it works best with bread that is a little savory rather than sweet.

Decadence in June holiday

This June holiday sees me going around places in Singapore indulging myself with scrumptious food.

First stop is the newly opened udon place - Tamoya. It proves that looks can be deceiving and never to judge food by how it looks. I never imagine something so simple and plain gives me the greatest udon I have ever eaten. Truly a mark of Japanese gastronomical art. The place is at Liang Court's ground floor.

Second place is Morgan field's. The tender juicy ribs is a wonderful place for gathering and catch up with friends.  My friends and I had a satisfying finger-linking good time. This is at Star Vista, a minute walk or two from Buona Vista MRT station.

Day trip to Johor Bahru

A day trip to Johor Bahru with some of my colleague.  After a sumptuous lunch,  we had coffee and cakes at a small cafe. Living in the cluttered Singapore for so long,  I sense the spacious Johor really refreshing - the long road stretching to the horizon and rows of shophouses.  Wow,  I much needed break, however short.

Nigella Lawson, again

This is not the first time I have blogged about her.

After watching this documentary,  I admire her more. She faces life challenges with such positivity. Well,  whatever happens in life,  it goes on.  AND,  there is always much to celebrate. Food is definitely one of them.

To me personally,  knowledge of science is another!

Blogging on the go - comfort food

I just installed the blogger app on my mobile and I can blog on the go now.

Saw this in Cold Storage some time back.  I think having ice cream as TV dinner is always an decadent. For occasions when one in need of comfort food.

SEA aquarium

I must say I am very impressed by the aquarium. My dad and uncle absolutely enjoyed it. Me too.

Another interesting attraction is the 4D Zheng He show. After it ended, the door opens to a wreck, which is really awesome.

I would recommend anyone to visit the aquarium. Of course nothing beats actually diving into the sea. But this is as close as it can get!

This is the baby bamboo shark. They are in a small tank where you can touch it. Not sure if this is good for the baby shark though.

Navy openhouse

Brought some students to the Navy Openhouse.  Weather was hot. It was crowded. But...  somehow,  I rather enjoyed it.  I suppose I always have the affinity with the sun and sea.

Muay Thai Challenge 2013

What an experience - watching muay thai matches close up.  I must say I am really impressed by the variety of moves by the Thai fighters.

This event is at Hard Rock, Resort World Sentosa.

The Art of Thinking Clearly

Reading this book at the moment.

This book is a compilation of mental fallacies we tend to commit. There are 99 of them mentioned in the book. I have encountered a number of them in others books like Black Swan and such. But this book summarizes them in nice succinct chapters.

There is a taste of it. In this talk, the author mentioned 3 of them.

 

Slow Revolution (or maybe evolution)

I have blogged this before a number of years ago. Incidentally, that was my first post.

In this fast paced and crowded society, this movement is much needed. The appearance of speed yoga and one-minute bedtime story really sound the alarm.

The author argues that doing things slowly is actually more efficient and effectively.

Also, what is the use of flying if you can't feel the wind on your face?

Free society and free speech

I am not really into politics or economics. Their issues are usually more complex than my brain can handle. But the following speeches really resonate in me:

1. The first is by Margaret Thatcher on free society.

" We believe they should be individual. We are all unequal ... we believe that everyone has the right be to unequal. But to us, every human being is equally important. A man's right to work as he will, to spend what he earns, to own property, to have the state as his servant and not his master. They are the essence of a free economy, and on that freedom, all our other freedom depends."

2. I would never have expected Mr Bean to give a speech on free speech. Rowan Atkinson can say any serious stuff and they will still sound funny to me. And that is what make this speech so appealing - seriousness with a dash of humour.



3. This speech is packed with punches. Jabs and crosses unpulled. Very serious, very angry, very well-argued.

 

A rainy ubin trip

An Ubin trip on a rainy day, armed with waterproof camera and mobile phone ( it's a sony!). You can always trusts the Japanese to come out with some useful devices suitable for rugged adventure. Here are some photos taken:
