Laser and Holography

I was trying to make a hologram from my photonics project. Apparently, not very successful. Can't really see the image ... still wondering why ... still trying to figure out and give another shot next week.

The picture below is a laser - yes , the black one. It doesn't look like the normal laser-pointer-type laser, it is ... hmm... more powerful ... Well size does matters.

The table with holes on it is an optical table. It is used to help alignment of the lenses and mirrors and beam splitters ...

Pulau Dayang

Just come back from Pulau Dayang for a weekend dive. Tired yet feel recharged to start the week ahead.






Dayang is the first place I went for my first dive in 2001, how time flies. It's a laid back place to relax and get in touch with nature , and away from city life. Few corners you can relax and watch the world goes by.

Silhouette

As usual, try to make the most out of the weekend or holiday, popping by East Coast to get a dose of sun, sea, sand before going back to work on Monday.

Scientific Discovery

Recently, there is this big hoo ha debate whether Singapore's investment into the bio --- any thing under the sun -- gical is successful or not?

Here is a list of ground breaking scientific discoveries that rocked the world. We are hoping to see if there is any earth shattering discovery on the way from Singapore. Meanwhile, any wobble probably comes from earthquake from Indonesia, or Malaysian newspaper claiming land reclamation causes flood.

Copernicus, Kepler, Galilio - Earth is not the centre of Universe.
Newton- Uniting the Heaven ( by that he meant stars and planets) and Earth with his Law of Motions - Principia.
Einstein - Relating Energy & Matter by the famous . This leads to the manufactoring of nuclear weapons - Lise Mertner, Otto Frish, Enrico Fermi.

Lavoisier - Mystery of burning (combustion) - total mass after reaction is exactly the same as before the reaction. People used to think that after burning something, it disappear and becomes ashes. I suppose some people still thinks that is true.
Rutherford - subatomic particles
Marie Curie, Pierre Curie, Becqeurel - Radioactivity. ( Think they die of cancer)

Charles Lyell - Principle of Geology and age of the earth.
Alfed Wegener - Theory of Plate Tectonic and Continent Drift . Many many many years ago, the America and Europes are joined, so are Australia and Asia

Charles Darwin - Origin of Species, natural selection, theory of evolution, survival of fittest ....
Gregor Mendel - Genes
Louis Pasteur - Germs and Microorganisms and relate them to diseases. ( We now know that some are actually good for our body - e.g. those stuff in Yakult and Vitagen)

藕断丝连 - March Holiday

It is the March school holidays and I have successfully transferred and adapted well in my new school for about 3 months now . However, my connections with my colleagues, students and scouts are ever more evident. A look at how the week is spent will show that this is so:

Sat night - scout's jobweek camp

Who says scout's all about camping and outdoor activities, the above Dunearn scouts above are rehearsing for an upcoming campfire event. And Yes! that's a violin, with keyboard and guitar ( not in pic) to go along.

Wed afternoon - treat the A1s physics students to Marche.


I have only found out that morning that the Marche at Suntec has closed and the one at Heeren is managed my Village. The original Marche has moved to Vivocity. Shows how much I have jalan jalan these few days.

After that we jalan jalan at Borders, Kino and of course the Apple Store. Well if you put a bunch of bookworms together at Orchard Road, that's where we will go. I must admit those are a few of my favourite haunts.

Wed night - Gathering with ex-colleagues at Coffee Club at Holland Village (HV) . I had a sandwich, which is good but not fantastic, and most others have pasta. After sneaking a few of those, I must say the Aglio Olio style is better than average compared to other pasta places , and have made a mental note to try the next time I have a meal at Coffee Club. Today- Friday.
I do have the intention to pop by Unity later on - for I have not passed the photo CD for Mus to upload to the scout's photo archive ; and visit the campfire at Bukit View later in the evening ...

New Seat

Have shifted to a new seat, away from the cross junction of staircase, phone, printers and sidedoor.

This is the new seat. It has a glasswall through which I can see the carpark and people walking by.
